I am now an aunt! The first of my many siblings (I think I have mentioned before that there are seven of us) had a little girl yesterday. My mom had me go to the hospital to be supportive, and after five minutes in the delivery room, I decided that I could be supportive in the lobby. As I have always thought, having babies is high on the icky list. My brother's girlfriend was in labor for hours and hours. I guess she checked in at midnight, and didn't actually have the baby until 5 pm.

It is a really cute baby. She is startlingly pale for being half black, but the mother's relatives assured us that her skin would get darker. I mentioned something about the baby being really light to my brother's girlfriend's aunt (yes, there was an entourage) and she said, "oh, she'll get more color. You look at a black baby's ears to see how dark they will be." I lifted up the baby's hat, and said, "there're pink; she's going to be red!" The lady had no sense of humor and didn't realize I was kidding. Anyways, I really like babies so I'm pretty excited.
