it's been a funny week...
It's been a funny week. I went up and interviewed at Giaganto Inc. at very short notice. I drove up there the day before, last Wedensday, which takes about 9 hours without traffic. They treated me like crap and then didn't invite me back for a second day of interviews because they didn't think that I was "customer service oriented" enough. But I ask myself, who is? Basically, one of the interviewers hated me, but to be fair, I didn't like her either. Halfway through, she remarked that she thought they gave too much time for "these things," ie, our half hour interview. I also only interviewed with two people, because the ones that I was supposed to meet never showed up for the meeting. It sucked.
I thought they were very, very strange anyways and wasn't sure that I actually liked them. They were so annoyingly self-satisfied. The company is rolling in money so they are just throwing it away. To give you some idea, the new ladies' room had heated toilet seats. Besides the disturbing thought that ran through my mind when I initially sat down, "gee, someone must have been sitting here a long time...how gross," I then realized that a warm toilet would be an excellent place to grow bacteria. Then I noticed the panel on the stall that controlled the bidet function of these newfangled, space-aged toilets. They had little pictograms that illustrated the "front cleaning" and "back cleaning" features. I decided against pushing the buttons, thanks. Who uses a public bidet? I lived in Europe, so I kinda get the whole bidet thing when it is in your own house, but water squirting up from the public toilet? It's like asking to be infected with genital warts or something. The whole idea is revolting. I wouldn't want to be part of a company that foolish in the first place.
I stayed with my ex-boyfriend Paddy while I was up there, which was nice. He was very sweet, actually. Right before my interview, I locked my keys in my car (yet another thing that went wrong). I called him and luckily he has AAA. He ditched work to wait for them with me in the parking lot for an hour an a half. Because I don't smoke at my mom's, I didn't have any cigarettes, so I smoked all of his. While I was driving back to his place, Giaganto called and told me they didn't want me to come back the next day. I was fine until I got to Paddy's, then I started to cry because it had been kind of a rough couple of days. He held me and stroked my hair, told me to feel sorry for myself if I wanted. After I calmed down, he took me to dinner at a quiet French bistro. Romantique, non? Then we went to his local bar, drank beer for a while and talked. When we went back to his place and ended up cuddling on the couch, although nothing really happened. He held me and stroked my face, but we didn't kiss. He slept on the couch and gave me his bed. Whatever this is all about.
I spent the actual weekend with Di, so it was like a little slumber party. We went to the pub and talked to an annoying Canadian grad student, we went to the mall and looked at clothes and perfume, got Thai food at a chic new restraurant (they seated us at the worst table right by the front door, so it was cold and drafty the entire dinner. Like old times). It was fun.
I drove back Sunday because I had another interview yesterday. It went really well, but I am afraid that she wouldn't hire me because she might think that I would only work there for a short time before moving on. I also live out of the area (it's about 50 miles from where I live now), so she wouldn't want to deal with waiting for me to move, etc. I guess I'll just wait and see. She seemed really nice.
