if only there were more mimes in the world...
So, I am temping again, after much time off. I went back to San Diego last week to get my things from my mother’s house (who knew I could accumulate so much crap so quickly, especially when I have been working so little). Anyway, I ended up staying for an extra four days because of the car incident—my insurance paid nothing for the hit and run, which sucked. I got the bare minimum fixed, so it wasn’t that expensive, but, the accident actually bent the frame of the car, so it drives kind of weird now. Supposedly it is safe, but it doesn’t turn as well as it did. I did get back to San Jose and have my new place together. I am getting too old to live in a crappy place with students, but I think I can manage at least for a while. One good thing is that I am the only one who uses the kitchen, so that shouldn’t be an item of contention (as it so often is between housemates). It is very nice to not be as dependent as I have been.
This weekend I didn’t do much, as I was recovering from moving. I went to a funny bookstore downtown, read a novel and played with my cat. On Sunday, I went with Paddy to SF. I was initially pretty mad because he was supposed to go out with me on Saturday and he cancelled. On Sunday, he offered to take me to a mime festival in Yerba Buena Park, so I was excited, because who isn’t fascinated with mimes? Especially a large group of them? I imagined dozens of silly little men with painted faces, striped shirts and berets trying to escape invisible boxes. Unfortunately, the name was ironic or something, and it wasn’t really a festival of mimes, but was actually the name of a theatre company that did a pedantic left-wing play making fun of religious people. It wasn’t funny, only mean-spirited and annoying, so we left. I was hugely disappointed. We got lunch and walked over to North Beach to see a jazz festival that was going on there, but that was bad too. Lots of slow hippy dancers. We got a couple of beers, walked around some more, then went got fancy dinner. Even though both of our planned events sucked, it still was a really beautiful day. So I fogave him, despite not seeing any mimes.
