It was my birthday on Saterday. I'm trying not to read into it, especially since it became glaringly obvious yesterday that I live in a slum, much worse than any place I lived in as a student. We're having serious plumbing problems, and apparently our landlord thinks that 400$ is too much to fix it. He gets more that 1200$ from us every month, never fixes anything, and thinks that 400$ is too much to shell out? I think I'm finding a new place to live. I spent the night at my boyfriend's because I can't deal without a toilet and shower.

I also got an email from a friend from grad school. She never did any better than I did, but she always got her way. Anyway, she's teaching at a university in portugal with her master's degree. And I'm a receptionist in san jose. Guess who feels really really lame?

My birthday weekend was actually very fun. Paddy and I spent the whole weekend out of town. He picked me up after work and drove to Davis. It was his friend's 30th birthday, so there was a big party. We stayed at the afterparty drinking until 3:30 in the morning, just like old times. Lots of fun. We met up with my sister, so Paddy got to meet her and see that we truly have nothing in common. She told him about her mule, going fishing and how excited they were to be going to the monster truck rally in sacramento. whatever.

After that, we took the scenic route to the North Bay because the freeway was closed. We got to our hotel after four hours on the twisty, twisty road, which I don't recommend if you are even slightly hung over. We got dinner and drinks with Di. Shot the shit for hours together and drank too much gin. Good times. Paddy and I went to Muir Woods on Sunday and "hiked" (our kind of hiking--a leisurely walk through the redwoods on a boardwalk). We watched the sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge at the old fort. Cheesy, but I don't have a problem with cheesy. We stopped off at his place in the city so he could pick up some things and got hamburgers before going back to san jose. we tried to watch tv for an hour before falling asleep at 10:00. longest, best weekend i've had in forever.
