plusses and minusses

I'm obsessively checking my email to see if I got into the other grad program. It would mean going to great university without upheaving my entire life (I may have learned a lesson in Canada afterall). The only downside to the program that I see is that it would take longer because their language requirements are really stringent. I wish I knew either way. I haven't really been able to think about much else.

On the positive side, Paddy may take me with him to a conference in Japan this summer! I guess his boss offered to send him to this conference to make up for him missing the big one in San Francisco last month. If his work sends him there, he says he wants to arrange to go a early, buy me a ticket and make a little vacation out of it. It isn't a sure thing yet, so I shouldn't get too excited, but really, I'm thrilled. He's always wanted to go there and I would really like to go back--my dad was stationed there when I was born, but I don't have any real memories of living there because we left when I was too young. Paddy's been talking about us taking a vacation together for a while--I'd have been excited to go to Vegas (which has also been suggested). It would be great to have some time away without being worried about work or school or whatever.
